Andrew, the owner of ACS Xtra Space, has been in the construction industry all his working life, primarily carpentry & loft conversions. For the past 30 years, Andrew has designed and built projects throughout the whole of Essex and London. Andrew will oversee all aspects of your build, making sure you get the extra space you want.

Do you need planning permission for a loft conversion?

A new loft conversion should not need planning permission unless; the new roof does not equate to more than 40m³ of space for terraced houses or 50m³ for detached houses. You need to get planning permission if this is the case.

Can any loft be converted?

You will need to let one of our team come and access your loft space, this will help us determine whether or not your current loft is suitable. Most homes do have a loft space that is suitable for development.

How much does a loft conversion cost?

Andy and the team just finished a roof refurb/loft conversion with us and I would highly recommend them. Why? 1 - They are very clear on their costings, are flexible and transparent on changes along the way, if there is a cost decrease then they share this as well, 2 - They use the same tradespeople throughout the job, same plumber, electrician, joiner, roofers etc so there is continuity and you don't end up with different people not knowing what was done before, 3 - They are tidy. Having a knock through into your loft is very disruptive but they make sure that the households needs are considered, 4 - They do not disappear onto other jobs, you may have to wait until they finish the previous job but once they start on yours they commit, 5 - They do a great job, we are delighted with the end result and would highly recommend them. Great team, all nice people to have knocking around your house for a few months!!

I had a loft conversion in 2017 which developed roof spread due to poor design. Got in touch with Andy who arranged for a structural engineer to create a new design structure which Andy and his team completed. Amazing job, nothing too much trouble, always responds to calls and messages immediately, no extra costs at the end of the job, great team. Wouldn't go anywhere else for future building works.

Andy and his team took on the our loft conversion and they were great to work with. 5 stars from us because we are very happy with the loft extension we got against the budget we had. It seems half our street has used Andy and team and there's a good reason that's happened. Andy brings his decades of experience to bear and has answers or advice for all the tricky niggles you find when retro-fitting an extension on old houses. We found we could always thrash out any concerns and explore any new ideas or options on the way and that was brilliant. Andy clearly has a good team behind him and there's professional planning booklets and payment schedules provided up front which is great. Then of course there's Pete and the core builders who were brilliant to have on site and did great work alongside Andy. Key for me is that any build is going to have challenges and with a host of sub-contractors working on the project you'll have some stressful days, but ACS and Andy were always in control and happy to address any issues.

From the outset communication from Andy and Paul was great and they also provided a very clear breakdown of the costs before any work was undertaken. We had a loft conversion with a dormer, this included fitting a new combi boiler. Andy and his team provided everything needed for this project from architect plans to inspection sign off as we had requested. Pete the onsite builder did an amazing job of the building works and was a pleasure to deal with. We recommended ACS Xtra space to our neighbour and once they had seen our finished loft conversion they also used them. I could not praise this company more for the work they did , polite , friendly and great quality work.

Andy and his team built us a loft conversion and dormer including additional work I needed such as creating a new doorway in my house and building me a front door canopy and fitting a new boiler.
